Where does the time go?
The Eccles Theater turns 10 years old and they are celebrating with a concert hosted by local raconteur Kurt Bestor featuring jazz singer songwriter Sutton Foster’s luscious voice. 7:30PM $50.
We really love how Asher Adams is inviting locals into their Union Pacific-museum/lobby. This week Craft Lake City brings artist Ashley Mott of Alpenglow Arts for a two-hour creative class to press flowers and seasonal leaves to create your own framed botanical artwork. Magical! $45 for all your supplies, starts at 5:45.
On Friday, play hooky and attend Finishing Touches at 10AM, the final rehearsal for tonight’s Utah Symphony concert, featuring Conrad Tao. At 31 he has already been named one of Forbes magazine’s “30 Under 30” in the music industry. Just $19. Friday and Saturday’s performance start at 7:30PM
Friends, we do a lot of research and deep dives for this (future) award-winning newsletter. Chris Estrada spent his formative years in South Central and Inglewood running from loose pit bulls, getting robbed, and geeking out over comic books and punk rock. His comedy is so endearing and relatable that he’s now writing his own show, This Fool for HULU. Check him out at Wiseguys, multiple shows.
Youl Sun is having a moment. He recently won the gold medal at the Bachauer competition and went on to his Carnegie Hall debut. He will tackle Liszt’s monumental Transcendental Études–among the most celebrated works in the piano repertoire. Rose Wagner, 7:30PM
Ballet West, hot off the big, successful, story-ballet Dracula, pinballs to abstract and intimate works including Christopher Wheeldon’s This Bitter Earth and Christopher Bruce’s Rooster, set to music by The Rolling Stones. Capitol Theatre, multiple shows.
ALSO FRIDAY
Last month, local artists Alex Moya and Kathy Tran left a mystery device in Exchange Place. The Wishing Well has delighted passersbys, who cranks the handle to receive a stranger’s wish–then leaves their own wish for the next person to discover. Tonight at 6:30, the Wishing Well comes alive, projecting your wishes and hopes for the future onto the surrounding buildings. It’s an ethereal, ephemeral moment you don’t want to miss, and it lasts only a few minutes.
Pearl Jam is not touring this year… next best thing? The Pearl Jam Experience, where Bob Donahue does a pretty fine Eddie Vedder. The cover of Jeremy took us right back to a very angsty youth. The Depot, 7PM $29.
We want to feature your fun!
