A CURATED CALENDAR FOR THE CURIOUS SLC EXPLORER
See full event listings at The Blocks Arts District
Who knew Garbage was still touring?! And, they actually never stopped recording. The things we learn writing this highly heralded and lauded newsletter (by our Mom). Anyway, this quintessential 90’s band is at The Complex and you can bet they will sing Stupid Girl, $51.
The Salt Lake Public Library opens a free exhibit of Matt Herron’s photography celebrating the Selma to Montgomery March for Voting rights, the most significant of all civil rights marches in the deep south. With 22,000 marchers, the 54-mile march received world wide attention and led to the Voting Rights Act. The exhibit will be on display until December.
Brace yourself for Mahler’s Titan Symphony–with a finale that could move mountains, it is a testament to the Master’s genius. The Utah Symphony take on this monumental work at Abravanell Hall for just two shows!
Good Neighbours adds a U in their name because they’re from England, and that’s how they spell it there. (Remember how much we learned writing this beloved (by our Aunt) newsletter?) In our research, we fell for this duo singing fun/joyous alt/indie music. See them at The Complex for $32.
There are just two more performances of Romeo and Juliet at Capitol Theatre. Ballet West interprets this iconic story through dance–and with all new costumes and sets–it dazzles!
An (adults-only) Night at the Museum as the Planetarium hosts Crimes at the Clark. Explore the science of forensics and crime-scene investigation with hands-on activities like blood spatter art and analysis, arson investigation techniques, secret message decoding.
“It’s hard to imagine anyone who raised Utah’s cachet more than Robert Redford,” Brad Wheeler recently told us. So, it is a fitting tribute to the Sundance Kid that Salt Lake Film Society is hosting a 12-day festival of sorts with his most acclaimed movies. Broadway Cinema, $13.00
When asked for a restaurant recommendation, we often guide visitors to Copper Common. The 20-year old restaurant, still helmed by Ryan Lowder, is as good as it was on day-one. Honestly, maybe better. We recently enjoyed the seared tuna bahn mi with yum yum sauce and toarashi as well as the miso shrimp carbonara with house made pasta, blistered tomatoes and guanciale. One bite in, and you’ll understand why we keep sending people their way.
We want to feature your fun!
