A CURATED CALENDAR FOR THE CURIOUS SLC EXPLORER
See full event listings at The Blocks Arts District

Are you a little intimidated by ice skating? We get it. This Thursday, 12:30-1:00 learn to skate with professional coaches on the Gallivan rink! You have to RSVP as the rink will be limited to small groups of 6. (There are three more lesson dates if this one fills up).

The Emerge series at RDT asks dancers in the company to create new works on their fellow dancers. The little magic boxes that have been created over the years have become repertoire in the Company, and launched some dancers to become choreographers and create their own companies. (Rose Wagner, three shows, Fri-Sat)

Utah Symphony tackles Tchaikovsky’s first notable score, Winter Daydreams, Symphony No. 1. Creating the ambitious work ravaged his mental and physical health but the work remains relevant 160 years later. The Guardian recently reviewed a performance and said it revolutionized the Russian style and themes that would continue into Tchaikovsky’s later works.  (Abravanel Hall, Fri-Sat)

Vuori City Creek invites all to an in-store, free, 45-min mat sculpt class led by BODYROK. Be sure to bring your own mat! 8:15-9am

Benise’s Emmy Award winning show, Fiesta! takes the stage at Rose Wagner for just one performance. “The Prince of Spanish Guitar” has seven(!) PBS Specials and the trailer on YouTube really sells it: ballet, Cuban salsa, samba, exotic drumming–it looks like a roller coaster propelled by fireworks! Tickets start at $45.

Hockey fans! We spotted $50 tickets for Saturday’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The emotion and energy at the Delta Center for Tusky and the Utah Mammoth is fervent and intoxicating! Pro Tip: some games the tickets prices fall day-of game. Keep your eyes out!

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. So true. But at the indoor Urban Flea Market at The Gateway we think you’ll be surprised by the amount of treasures you’ll want to take home. $3, 10-4pm

At the Cathedral of the Madeleine, Dr. Richard K. Fitzgerald will perform a free concert of sacred hymns. The Doctor has won many awards and is renowned for his improvisational skills. He previously played the organ at the Basilica of the National Shrine in Washington D.C. where he was heard on many international television broadcasts.  (8-10pm, donations encouraged)

Nutritious Bowl is a bit camouflaged at the corner of 500 west and 200 south (right behind Gateway). This very hip, bright, and lovely space is both a delicious Indian Fusion concept and sports bar. (Would Curry Up and Watch be a better name? We will send our address for royalties).

Our visit left us impressed by the vegetable samosa packed with flavor and served with spicy mint sauce. The crispy cheese balls were a hit and just as good as they sound. (A vegetarian companion meant we’ll have to go back for the bacon cheese rolls! YUM!) Everything we tasted we would order again.

Service at Nutritious Bowl was just as warm and welcoming as the ambiance. Z, our bartender and server was charming and must have served some time at a James Beard or Michelin outpost. All together, 5-star, will return and recommend!
