A CURATED CALENDAR FOR THE CURIOUS SLC EXPLORER
See full event listings at The Blocks Arts District

Sundance’s Local Lens series will screen Jane Elliott Against the World, free at the Rose Wagner, exclusively for Utah residents. Elliott became a national voice against racism in 1968 after teaching her all-white class a lesson about discrimination. At 90-years-old her voice is still adamant about the importance of that lesson. Reserve your free tickets.

After the success of his first three works, Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 was fought over by four European orchestras in 1901 before he settled on a world premiere in Munich. The Utah Symphony performs his joyous and shortest symphony Friday and Saturday at Abravanel Hall. 7:30

If you haven’t checked out Downtown’s newest retailer, MOMU, here is a fantastic opportunity. They’ll have a free reception for their month-long art exhibit featuring works by local artists in a variety of mediums. Friday, 6-9pm.

Prominent Mexican rapers Aleman and Gera MX have been rivals for decades. But last year they buried the hatchet and recorded in the studio together, producing a record of Latin hip-hop that they’ll perform at The Dept, $71

The Runarounds is a real band with a fake tv show. Huh? When you see them on their Amazon Prime show with the same name, they play scripted characters in a band–when they tour, they play their original catchy indie pop as themselves. And, guess what? They’re great! Soundwell, 8pm.

Louisiana EDM artist Bookie T has been writing music since he was 8. In that time he has curated a blend of electro funk with a medley of musical elements that gives him a signature sound all his own.  He plays The Complex, 9pm

Psychedelics in the Beehive continues to grow every year. This festival brings together the psychedelic community for conversation and connection through dance, art, movies, and worship. (Friday through Sunday at The Gateway)

We’re pretty sure the Downtown Farmers Market is the only Farmers Market in the world operating under two airplanes: a massive C-131 military transport plane from 1954 and a Soviet-made MiG-21 that flew in the Polish Air Force. You can see them for free 10-2 Saturday at 209 east 500 south. (Oh, and check out 70 amazing farmers and makers while you’re there!)

You know Rodney Norman? He’s in your Instagram feed. At first you were like, “who is this nut?” And then, you realized he’s kind of a sophisticated philosopher who weaves hilarity into his observations of the world. Momma always said, don’t judge a book by its cover. Wiseguys, Fri+Sat.

The Masala Dosa, from Sri Anapoorani Express, a South Indian vegetarian restaurant hidden inside a Mexican restaurant (Mi Buena Vida at 200 S. Main). Don’t be intimidated by its size.  This Dosa is whisper thin, like a crepe, but with more crunch. And there is a perfectly human-size dollop of savory Masala potatoes hiding inside.  Not sure if we ate it correctly.  But none of the regulars pointed and laughed. We will be back for more!
