Downtown SLC Open Streets - Closed For Fun
Join us for a Downtown SLC Open Streets from 6-10 p.m. each Thursday, Friday and Saturday, September 17th through October 10th.
Downtown SLC Open Streets will animate the spacious Main Street corridor with expanded patio service areas for restaurants accompanied by buskers and artist activations in various locations from Exchange Place to City Creek Center. This is not a street festival or a block party, but rather an expansion of Main Street pedestrian options to allow residents and visitors the space to enjoy the energy of downtown.
Parts of Main Street will be closed to automobile traffic and open to physically distanced urban fun. We are excited to welcome people downtown for safe shopping, dining, buskers, and pop-up performances.
133 restaurants and bars and over 100 local and downtown-only retailers are open for business. Open Streets is not only an invitation to enjoy Main Street but downtown at large.
Physical distancing, face coverings, frequent disinfecting and other safety guidelines are requested. Downtown Alliance Lauds Salt Lake City's Shift to Yellow
Effective Friday, September 4th, Salt Lake City will shift to the yellow restriction phase of the State’s COVID-19 health guidelines.
“We commend Mayor Mendenhall and her administration’s efforts in taking this important step to shift restrictions,” said Derek Miller, president and CEO of the Downtown Alliance and Salt Lake Chamber. “The Mayor’s data-informed decision making allows Salt Lake City to balance the financial health of its businesses while maintaining the wellbeing of its citizens.”
According to the State of Utah’s Health Guidance System, all businesses are allowed to open their doors under the yellow restriction so long as reasonable precautions such as mask-wearing, social distancing and frequent sanitization are followed. A full list of individual and business guidelines can be found here.
“While this is not a return to normal, a decrease in the level of restriction means an increase in economic opportunity for downtown Salt Lake City’s 2,000+ businesses,” said Dee Brewer, executive director of the Downtown Alliance. “We look forward to safely welcoming hotel guests, shoppers, downtown workers and patrons to the myriad of restaurants, bars and retail favorites that are open.”

Stay Safe to Stay Open is a statewide campaign to meet the critical imperatives of helping Utah address the health-related objectives to prevent and recover from the coronavirus while at the same time assisting the business community in an effort to appropriately strengthen our state’s economy.
Stay Safe to Stay Open seeks to educate, inform and help businesses communicate to their consumers that they have pledged to follow safety guidance from the Utah Department of Health.
Businesses participating in the campaign will be able to clearly identify their participation by colorful signage displayed in their windows and throughout their establishments, demonstrating that they have taken a pledge to follow the state’s guidelines.
