A CURATED CALENDAR FOR THE CURIOUS SLC EXPLORER
See full event listings at The Blocks Arts District

At the Clark Planetarium, check out Backyard Wilderness, a 3D documentary on the IMAX screen that has won over a dozen awards. It captures magical moments in nature and broadcasts them on a large, intense scale. Great to get kids off wifi and into wilderness!

A food truck, a circus, and a beer garden. Step right up for a free performance by Cirque Kikasse, an acrobatic troupe from Quebec at Gallivan Center for one performance at 6:00. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages: order one of the best burgers from Girls Who Smash, grab a beer (21+) and enjoy the show!

Anthology, a triple bill at RDT will be Ursula Perry’s final curtain call with the iconic dancer company. We’ve been huge fans of Ursula for over a decade. She recently said she’s feeling a bit overwhelmed, but that this show is kind of perfect. “These works are visceral and historical and the accumulation of all the skills I’ve learned in the 13 years I’ve been here. This is a rich ending.” Ursula you’ve made us cry, giggle, and left us mesmerized and awed. Rose Wagner, through Saturday.

ALSO THURSDAY

Celebrate the Utah Mammoth at 3pm with a party on the plaza at the Delta Center. Before the puck drops for the first home playoff game against the Vegas Golden Knights, come get your photo with the Tusky and Zammoth, live music, interactive games, and a beer garden. Plus giveaways! Free!

Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 will be performed by the Utah Symphony with guest conductor Andrew Manze, making his Utah debut. Abravanel Hall, Fri + Sat.

ALSO FRIDAY:

We recently posted photos of Japantown to Instagram and were surprised how many people didn’t know about the history of the area. Discover it Saturday at the immersive Nihon Matsuri, or Japanese Festival: Taiko drumming, martial arts demonstrations, cosplay contests, delicious food, AND, do not miss the opportunity to see the Buddhist Temple and their museum that tells the legacy of Salt Lake’s Japantown. Free, 10am-5pm

Delta Center, 8pm.

ALSO SATURDAY:

A regular on Colbert and at New York’s Comedy Cellar, Emma Willmann is such a natural on stage, it feels like you’re at a casual lunch with her as she dishes on her family, her therapy sessions, ADHD, and so forth. By the end of the show, you’ll feel like best friends. Wiseguys, 7pm
