ON THE STREET: What’s New (and What’s Next) in Downtown Salt Lake
This spring, Downtown is brimming with bold new concepts, beloved spaces reimagined, and homegrown gems setting up shop in Salt Lake’s urban core.
Let’s take a stroll.
Repeal: A New Era in a Storied Space
Downtown just got a little darker—and a lot more delicious. Nestled in the historic shell of the former Bourbon House, Repeal rises like a velvet-cloaked secret: moody, magnetic, and made for indulgences. Owned by hospitality heavyweights Kelly and Camille Howard, this sultry new spot drips with Prohibition-era seduction, channeling the glamour of a hidden vampire lounge. Revelers are lured deeper into the space by live jazz filling the space every night.
Helming the kitchen is none other than Chef Joey Ferran, the culinary wizard who put Cucina on the map. Here, Ferran is elevating his signature flavors. (Have you ever enjoyed hummus with black ant “caviar”? It’s delicious.)
Kings Peak Coffee a Double Shot of Vibes on 200 South
Forgive us, Kings Peak Coffee Roasters! You opened last October on the edge of Downtown at 592 West 200 South. Your new café brings a sleek, earthiness to the block, serving up roasts that are as refined as the design. Two retailers also stealthily opened next door to Kings Peak, The Venue, an old school barbershop and a nail shop named The Best (on an early morning run, they were closed, but very cute!)
SLC Bar: From Grammar to Grit
On Gallivan Avenue, the old Good Grammar spot is getting another life. Coming soon: SLC Bar—a new venture with a straightforward name and a no-nonsense approach to good times. Our inside man says to expect cheap drinks, occasional live music, and a pub that eschews the trendy, polished places surrounding it. Post-up, toast-up, stay late.
BOTANIKA Bodega
Ever since Jade Market ghosted lower 200 South, the block’s been thirsting for a new spot to score smokes, sundries, and something just a little bit extra. Well—our leafy little prayers have been answered. 🌿
Botanika is blooming into the neighborhood with hand-picked produce, dreamy florals, and artisan goodies. Think: corner store meets cozy-chic greenhouse. And yes, there’s a loungy little nook where the vibes are high and the conversation flows like a perfectly poured oat milk latte.
CITY CREEK is Crackin’!
Ali Vallarta at City Cast SLC asked, what’s a mall without a Gap or a Sbarro? It is a decent question, and we have the answer. Sbarro is back, (with Shake Shack also opening soon). The Gap is minutes away from being transformed into a Sunglass Hut, and a New Balance store next door. AND, as if that all wasn’t enough, replacing Forever 21 is Design Within Reach! Utah’s first outpost for the modern luxury furniture store.
See you downtown.
