Freeway Access

Interstate 15 was redesigned in 2001 to better accommodate Salt Lake City's growing population and economy. The redesign included adding High Occupancy Vehicle lanes and additional lanes of traffic.

Downtown Salt Lake City is now served by the 600 North interchange, 400 South HOV interchange, and the 500 South interchange. The entire freeway system now includes strategically positioned cameras that monitor traffic flow and alert drivers of potential delays before they encounter them.

Visit www.utahcommuterlink.com for more information.

Public Transportation

The TRAX Light Rail System promptly delivers people directly downtown within minutes after boarding the North-South Sandy line, and the East-West University line. TRAX operates from approximately 5:30am to 11:00pm Monday thru Thursdays, until 1:00am on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 9:30am to 9:30pm on Sundays.

This system is exceeding predicted rider numbers of over 25,000 riders per day. Several expansion projects are currently underway or in the planning stages.

Salt Lake City Downtown Transportation Master Plan

Salt Lake City Corporation, Utah Transit Authority, Redevelopment Agency of SLC, Utah Dept. of Transportation, the Salt Lake Chamber and Downtown Alliance are funding the development of a Downtown Transportation Master Plan. These organizations are developing a comprehensive, coordinated, long-term transportation strategy for downtown Salt Lake City. The goal is to develop a single, unified strategy that covers all interrelated elements of the transportation system over the next 25 years. The plan will incorporate recommendations for mobility improvements for pedestrians, bicyclists, automobiles, buses, light rail and commuter rail operations. The plan will complement Salt Lake's land use policy, and will focus on solutions that are easy to understand, accessible, affordable and adoptable, in response to the tremendous growth currently underway and forecast to continue.
