The Essential Guide to Downtown Salt Lake City

Downtown_Essentials_Guide_2011_Page_01

Downtown is on the cusp of a transformational change and there has never been a better time to explore Salt Lake City. New life is being breathed into downtown's historic buildings, as streets like Main and Broadway undergo a dynamic renaissance.

2010 is a great year to be working, eating, playing and living downtown.

At the Downtown Alliance, we are grateful for intrepid business owners, large and small, who are building our capital city. And we appreciate the residents and visitors who are helping to create a dynamic and diverse community. Together, we envision an urban center embraced by visitors and residents across the entire region. In its essence, downtown is an amenity—just like a national park, the Wasatch Mountains or the airport—that belongs to people across the region. Downtown is inclusive and it belongs to everyone.

This guide is not exhaustive, and we have not included every story or site in the Central Business District. But working with our talented friends at Salt Lake magazine, we have tried to capture the essence of a great American city. We hope you will use this guide as an owner's manual for your own version of a downtown experience. As you explore Utah's urban center, we urge you to share your discoveries with family, friends and neighbors. And with us. To share your experience, go to downtownslc.org/stories.

Thanks for spending some time in our shared downtown and for helping to create a capital city all Utahns can be proud to call their own.

Sincerely,

Jason Mathis,
Director of Downtown Alliance

Kent Gibson,
Chairman of the Downtown Alliance
