Salt Lake City hires community liaison to deal with concerns about oil spill - DNews 6/22

SALT LAKE CITY — Mayor Ralph Becker announced Tuesday his appointment of a new community liaison tasked with helping residents with concerns related to the Chevron oil spill.

Robin Carbaugh, a University of Utah-educated urban planner with two decades of experience, will "assist the city in its role as watchdog of the Chevron cleanup effort" and act as an impartial resource for those effected by the release of some 33,000 gallons of crude oil into Red Butte Creek last weekend.

Becker said he created the position to aid in the city's ongoing efforts to look out for residents and monitor the mitigation of oil spill damage.

"As we continue to monitor Chevron's cleanup efforts, we want to ensure we are getting complete and accurate information," he said. "I believe having a neutral, confidential place for residents to raise any concerns is a very productive action we can take to help Salt Lake City heal from this disastrous event that continues to pose issues of concern for our community."

Those with concerns can call Carbaugh at 801-870-1428 or e-mail her at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
