Future of shopping in downtown Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - With City Creek set to open in less than two months and the Gateway already loosing stores the rumors are flying about the future of shopping downtown Salt Lake City.
The big question: with the new what happens to the old?
Alix Blakemore was shopping Gateway on Thursday and wondered, "Are they closing Gateway down?"
You might wonder the same walking through The Gateway. Right now five stores are black, closed for now. But most will reopen in City Creek. City Creek is the new $1.5 billion downtown project bringing new places to live, work and shop downtown. City Creek has already announced 20 "New to Utah" stores accompanying the classics, like Nordstrom.
The Gateway told ABC4 in a statement Thursday, they are confident they will be fine.
The Gateway said, "As with any new center, there will be a curiosity factor and everyone will want to see the new center."
If anything, The Gateway said City Creek is good for them and the entire community.
The Gateway said, "If there are other venues that can draw people downtown, that is a positive for The Gateway."
The Gateway is working on filling the vacant stores, they already have two "New to Utah" tenants: Francesca's Collection and Epic Board Shop. The stores should be open in the next few weeks and more will be on their way.
City Creek will open March 22nd with 700,000 square feet of brand new retail space.
The new vision for Salt Lake City encompasses ideas large and small, bold and restrained - for shaping downtown's future.
