Bloggers are supposed to be snarky. I lose all credibility when I am totally enthusiastically positive about something. I get comments like: "What is this, a press release?" and "Did they pay you to write this?"
But there are some things for which I have fairly unbounded enthusiasm, like the Downtown Farmers Market in Pioneer Park.(Okay I could say something here about the excessive number of dogs wagging their tails against the tomatoes, and wonder what would happen if I put Kitty on her leash and took her down there on Saturday morning to sniff some squashes. But that is beside the present point.)
Which is, at a press conference in PIoneer Park this morning, city officials announced the expansion of the beloved Downtown Farmers Market, which opens for the season next weekend.
Farmer fans will find the market taking up the whole of Pioneer Park this summer, instead of being crammed into the north end. Jason Mathis of Downtown Alliance says that last year nearly 400 vendors had to be turned away for lack of space. The new layout spaces booths out in groups of four, so there will be a less congested feel to the market and was necessary because this year Pioneer Park has to accommodate the big stage used for the Twilight Concert series, which has been moved to Pioneer Park while Gallivan Center is being renovated.
Don't forget—you can support the Downtown Farmers Market by attending their opening celebration Monday at Squatters Pub Brewery. For information about tickets and other general market info, go here.
