SLC Film Center Presents: Los Zafiros
July 7th

To those whose lives they briefly touched, Los Zafiros are legends. They caused a sensation in Havana and beyond throughout
the 60’s and into the early 70’s, against the backdrop
of the Bay of Pigs invasion. Melding together American
doo-wop with Afro-Cuban rhythms, Salsa and Son,
they embarked on critically lauded tours throughout Europe.

The group, however, remains largely unknown outside of Cuba as a result of the political climate of the Cold war.
“LOS ZAFIROS explores the memories of Manuel Galban and Miguel Cancio, the two surviving members of Los Zafiros,
as they are reunited in Havana.

where the 337 Project ended.

The artwork was inspired by, and completed since, the 337 Project closed in May 2007. Accompanying the exhibit will be two
additional components that document the 337 Project
from start to demolition: photographs by Lewis Francis
and a film by the DaDa Factory team.

Will Bagley Book Signing
July 11th

Enjoy a reading and book signing by Will Bagley, author of the new book Always a Cowboy: Judge Wilson McCarthy and the Rescue of the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad.

Will Bagley's biography of Judge McCarthy is a sweeping life-and-times narrative that situates a personal and family saga in a rich historical panorama. Born on the frontier at American Fork, Utah Territory, two years after the Denver & Rio Grande Western reached town, Judge Wilson McCarthy lived to try to harness the wonders of the Atomic Age. His life mirrored change in the twentieth-century West.

Judge McCarthy's crowing achievement would be the rescue of a legendary American railroad. His ability to lead the Denver & Rio Grande back from the brink saved a vital link in the national transportation system.
